HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Following the establishment of the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences in 2012, the department of clinical pharmacy and pharmacy management together with other departments were created to jointly contributed in the training of Bachelor of Pharmacy degree which was the highest academic qualification required to register as a pharmacist in Nigeria as at then. KASU is the first state owned university to start pharmacy program in the northwestern Nigeria and the second, after Gombe state university in the whole northern part of the country.

The pioneer head of the Department was Prof. A. T. Mora, who also served as the pioneer Dean of the Faculty since its establishment from 2012 to June 2016. Then, Pharm. Basira Lawal Kankia served in acting capacity from June 2016 to July 2017. From July 2017 to September 2019, Dr. Zulaihatu Abdullahi led the department as the substantive HOD. Dr. Basira Lawal Kankia had been re-appointed to oversee the affairs of the Department as a substantive HOD from September 2019 to April 2023 when Dr. Shuaibu Aliyu, a sabbatical lecturer from ABU was appointed to serve the department as the current HOD in acting capacity.
